Lab Testing
Overview
According to the Thai Cosmetic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the use of unsafe cosmetics is strictly prohibited. The regulations clearly state that cosmetics must not be manufactured under unhygienic conditions and must not contain substances that may be toxic or harmful to consumers.
Therefore, authoritative third-party testing reports are not only a regulatory requirement to comply with the Thai FDA (TFDA), but also a powerful tool to demonstrate product safety and quality to the market and consumers. Proper testing can effectively prevent product recalls, withdrawals, and legal disputes.
Our Services
We focus on core cosmetic testing items:
01
Prohibited Substance Testing
Accurately screen for chemicals prohibited by TFDA (e.g., unauthorized preservatives, heavy metals).
02
Microbial Limit Testing
Test for bacteria, molds, and yeasts to ensure compliance with Thai hygiene and safety standards.
03
Physicochemical Testing
Measure pH, stability, fragrance purity, and other indicators to ensure product safety and shelf life.
We manage the testing process from start to finish, assist in interpreting reports, and provide corrective guidance (formula adjustment, process optimization) if tests fail, including support for re-testing.
Detailed Testing Services
Microbial Testing
Items: Total plate count, molds and yeasts, thermotolerant coliforms, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.
Purpose: Ensure hygiene safety during production, storage, and use; comply with Thai cosmetic microbial limits.
Physicochemical Testing
Items: pH, viscosity, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium), active ingredient content, etc.
Purpose: Verify formula stability and authenticity; ensure harmful metals are within limits; confirm active ingredients match label claims.
Toxicology & Safety Testing
Items: Skin irritation, skin sensitization, eye irritation (or in vitro alternatives)
Purpose: Provide scientific evidence of safety; a core document supporting product notification and market compliance.
Stability Testing
Items: Examine product properties, color, odor, pH, microbial limits under accelerated and long-term conditions.
Purpose:
Determine shelf life: Provide scientific support for labeled expiration date.
Evaluate packaging compatibility: Ensure packaging adequately protects the product.
Sunscreen Efficacy Testing (if applicable)
Items: SPF, water resistance, etc.
Purpose: Provide internationally recognized reports to substantiate sunscreen claims, a key requirement for TFDA notification of sunscreen products.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are testing reports from your partner laboratories recognized by TFDA?
Yes. All partner laboratories are registered with TFDA. Reports do not require additional certification and can be directly used for TFDA product notification and customs clearance.
Do testing requirements differ for different types of cosmetics?
Yes. For example, color cosmetics require additional pigment compliance testing, and sunscreen products require SPF and PA validation. We recommend testing schemes based on product type.
Are testing fees included in registration services?
Usually, testing and registration are billed separately, with costs depending on product type and testing scope. However, you can also choose a “testing + dossier submission” package for a convenient, all-in-one solution.
